Prison Break

Escape from myself!

Get away from me!

This prison holds me down

There are soldiers all around

They try to hold me to the ground

But I refuse to drown

… in this puddle made from my sweat,

my tears, and my blood

This blood isn’t good enough for freedom

I may give it all

But it won’t break these chains

And it seems that my captors

Are members of me

So I cry out

Am I just a shadow?

I can’t take this anymore

I’ve become what I abhor

I’m collapsing in fear

The end was so near

… but having come so far

On my own, wasn’t good enough

This blood isn’t good enough for freedom

I may give it all

But it won’t break these chains

And it seems that my captors

Are members of me

What shall I become?

Will I fade to grey?

A whisper in the dark

I know that I’m dreaming

I see you in my sleep.

And I follow your lead.

And I realize:

Your blood is good enough for freedom

In my sleep, and when the earth quakes,

You have set me free.
